Cheetah XCAT on Surf Safari in Capbreton

The first three Cheetahs were completed in time for Seawork and included Cheetah Marine''s hydrogen powered prototype. The forth is X-Cat, an 11.2m Cheetah which will be sailing south for a surf life on the west coast of France. The 11.2m has been designed and built for Surf Safari and charter trips from Capbreton nearby to surf capital Biarritz

With such an exciting role, XCat provided Cheetah with a great opportunity to demonstrate their ability to design and fabricate to the customers exact requirements. The stern features twin stainless steel surfboard racks for 8 boards with side door and aft boarding options. Deck seating for 12 lays back into two sun bathing platforms for passengers wishing to enjoy the sun over the surf. Deck showers and a bar / galley compliment the onboard facilities.

With twin Honda 250hp outboards achieving top speeds of 35 knots and a cruise of 20 knots, it is hoped to complete the 550 mile passage from the Isle of Wight to Capbreton in 2 days.

Franck Viddall, New Owner comments

“I spent a lot of time researching different vessels. After meeting Cheetah at La Rochelle Boatshow I visited the workshops and tested the demonstrator from Ventnor Haven. The harbour entrance at CapBreton is similar, shallow with surf so good seahandling and a shallow draught is essential. I also have the stability of a catamaran and more space for my guests to enjoy.”
