A revolutionary "rubbish boat" offers a rapid solution for emptying waste water from yachtsmen
"To encourage greater biodiversity in the port, we have introduced a number of measures, and this operation to recover black and grey water is obviously one of them".
In an exclusive report by the M6 television channel, we discover an innovative system that solves the problem of emptying waste water from pleasure craft in less than 10 minutes at Port Fréjus in the Var region of France. At the end of a pipe is a sort of "dustbin boat" that allows boaters to empty their waste water without polluting the environment. As one yachtsman explains: "Without it, we'd be dumping our waste in the harbour or at sea. In fact, by law, you have to be within 20 kilometres of the coast to empty your boat. However, as Mr Wilfried Point, creator of this multiservice workboat, points out: "People don't go 20 kilometres to empty their wastewater tanks, so when they leave the port they open the valves and the waste is dispersed along the coastline, where we swim."
Thanks to this system, the wastewater is then transported to treatment plants. At the Port of Fréjus, this service is included in the price of the berth, resulting in cleaner water and the appearance of new species of fish. As the director of the Port of Fréjus explains: "To encourage greater biodiversity in the port, we have introduced a number of measures, and this operation to recover black and grey water is obviously one of them.
Thanks to this innovation, yachtsmen can now empty their waste water quickly and in an environmentally-friendly way. This helps to preserve water quality and promote marine biodiversity. This revolutionary solution offers a practical alternative to traditional emptying, allowing boaters to enjoy their activities at sea while acting in an environmentally responsible way.
The initiative implemented at the Port of Fréjus is a concrete example of the desire to improve the quality of port waters and protect marine ecosystems. It highlights the importance of raising awareness and adopting sustainable solutions to preserve our precious coastal environment.
