0.012 W/(m·K) Thermal Conductivity, 0.48 Resilience Coefficient: Inside the LNG Elastic Blanket Engineered for Storage Tank Performance
How a high-resilience glass-fiber blanket protects the -162°C inner tank from thermal stress across decades of LNG service.
When LNG enters at -162°C, the inner tank contracts sharply; perlite settles into the gaps. During warm-up, the compacted perlite has nowhere to move and exerts heavy lateral pressure on the inner-tank wall — a cycle that can buckle thin-wall steel over decades. Insulation must therefore satisfy five critical requirements: ultra-low thermal conductivity (≤0.08 W/(m·K) for cryogenic service), extremely low water absorption, temperature compatibility with tank steel, high-resilience mechanical stress buffering, and A1-grade fire & corrosion resistance.
