Lindley pontoons host once again Volvo Ocean Race vessels
This is the second time that Pedrouços Dock receives the stopover of the biggest round of the world boat race. In May 2012 it was already chosen to receive the vessels of the race, with a turnout of about 200.000 visitors during these ten day stay in the city. At that time, the inclusion of Lisbon in VOR route accelerated the reconversion of Pedrouços Dock allowing its redevelopment.
The Port Authority of Lisbon, entity responsible for the project, awarded the supply of floating equipment of Pedrouços Dock to Lindley; the project, completed in April 2012, included the assembly of several floating pontoons with reinforced concrete structure and reinforced steel structure hot-dip galvanized; moreover, the company supplied bridges and control gates, and also emergency , electrical, lighting and water service pedestals.
In 2015, to ensure optimal working conditions and security infrastructure, maintenance of floating pontoons were carried out, confirming the satisfactory performance of the equipment in order to receive again the VOR vessels.
The VOR vessels are the proof of the reliability and robustness of the pontoons manufactured by Lindley; for the stopover of Itajaí the concrete pontoons that hosted the event vessels were also manufactured and supplied by this company.
This work, completed in the first quarter of this year, was performed by Lindley in partnership with a local company. The manufacture of the pontoons were performed in a nearby shipyard and controlled by Lindley technical staff, which also supervised the assembly process of the floating pontoons on water at the site. According to VOR organization, the pontoons of Itajaí have received thousands of people during the 17 days of presence in the city. This 12th edition of the VOR left Alicante (Spain) in October 2014 and will finished in Gothenburg (Sweden) on the 27th June.
