MAKE-A-BRIDGE® CREATES ACCESS TO PORT OF SEPT-ÎLES HERMEL BOAT DISPLAY

Aug. 24, 2015 - MAADI Group, Inc., Engineering Design and Build firm of Boucherville, Québec, Canada has supplied the Port of Sept-Îles, Québec, with two Make-A-Bridge® (MAB) aluminum pedestrian bridges that form the main entryway into one of the Port’s administration buildings (Photo Courtesy of the Port of Sept-Iles). The building lobby is home to the iconic Hermel boat, which Mylène Paquette rowed solo across the Atlantic Ocean, 1,300 kilometers from Halifax, Nova Scotia to Lorient, France in 2013. The two MAB footbridges, 20 feet and 26 feet long, enable full access to the Port’s very popular exhibit. Each Make-A-Bridge® features: mill-finish corrosion-free aluminum; clear width of .9 meters (2.95ft) and height of 1067mm (42in); and live load capacity of 4.8kPa (100lb/pi2). The Make-A-Bridge® structures allow access by all Port of Sept-Îles patrons and visitors, including those with disabilities.

Paquette’s 7.3-meter-long fiberglass row boat is permanently displayed in the lobby of one of the Port’s administration buildings to enhance the Port’s prominence as a Tourism hub, where everyone from cruise ship passengers and vacationer travelers to local visitors and school children will enjoy seeing the boat up close. The Make-A-Bridge® pedestrian bridges ensure that all visitors have easy entry to see Paquette’s vessel. General Contractor for the Port of Sept-Îles project, Construction RIC inc., Sept-Îles, Qc, installed the two MAB pedestrian bridges according to the plans of BGLA Architecture + Design Urbain, Québec, Qc.

Alex de la Chevrotière, P.Eng., President of MAADI Group, said, “We are honored and pleased that our award-winning Make-A-Bridge® serves as the primary entryway to view Mylène Paquette’s famous boat, which will inspire people of all ages. MAB is ideal for port and marina applications, because it will last for decades against the wind, waves, and salt-water corrosion. We are proud that Make-A-Bridge® is the pathway to experiencing Mylène Paquette’s journey!”

The Make-A-Bridge® modular weld-free design is made with an extruded aluminum truss structure and guardrails and patented cast aluminum tripod node joints that form its interlocking system. The bridge combines structural strength with the long-term benefits of maintenance-free and 100% recyclable aluminum. For more information, contact Alex de la Chevrotière, P.
