Navicork FD01 has a Negative Carbon Footprint
Navicork FD01, the innovative high-density cork solution for marine decks developed by Amorim Cork Composites, has been confirmed to have a negative carbon footprint through an external study conducted by ITECONS.
This validation strengthens the leadership position of the Navicork by Amorim brand in promoting a more sustainable future for the maritime industry, encouraging the sector to adopt innovative solutions with a positive environmental impact.
The Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) study conducted by ITECONS[1], an independent entity, and in compliance with EN ISO 14040, EN ISO 14044, and EN 15804 standards, revealed that each square meter of Navicork FD01 material sequesters more CO₂ than it emits throughout the entire production process, from raw material extraction to factory output (“cradle-to-gate”). The Partial Carbon Footprint analysis showed that the product has a carbon footprint of -0.97 kg CO₂ eq./m² for a thickness of 6 mm and -0.69 kg CO₂ eq./m² for a thickness of 8 mm.
According to António Rios de Amorim, CEO and Chairman of Corticeira Amorim, “The carbon footprint studies highlight Corticeira Amorim’s ongoing commitment to promoting the positive impact of the entire cork sector through rigorous, validated, and certified research. The results achieved with the Navicork FD01 material confirm its negative carbon footprint and once again strengthen our focus on developing innovative materials in harmony with nature.”
As the marine industry embraces greener practices, Navicork FD01 provides boat builders and owners with an impactful way to reduce their environmental footprint. Beyond its sustainable advantages, Navicork FD01 also delivers high-performance technical features, including thermal and acoustic insulation, anti-slip properties, a comfortable soft touch, and versatile design options.
Amorim Cork Composites has been at the forefront of sustainable material solutions for over a century. By leveraging cork — a naturally renewable resource — Amorim develops materials that benefit not only industries but also the environment. With its brand Navicork by Amorim, the company continues its legacy of innovation, setting new standards for sustainability in the marine sector.
