NODUS FACTORY: THE HIGH TECH MARINE KNOT

Inventor of ultra-resistant textile fittings, Nodus Factory seduces the world of sailing from its headquarters in Sarzeau. The company supports its approach of responsible societal innovation, as explained by Odile Laborie, Managing Director.

What products does Nodus Factory offer?

Yves Laurant, founder of the company, imagined fittings in textile, rather than metal. Combining ropes worked in splicing and transfilage with "connectors", our products are very easy to use to tie, tie, hoist any equipment of pleasure or competition sailboats. The connectors were created by our design office and a patent has even been filed.

What are the advantages of these products?

Marine knots are part of the life of sailors, but they are often complicated. With Nodus Factory products, you no longer need to tie knots: they can replace carabiners, shackles, straps, lanyards with easier use, lighter weight and ten times greater resistance. Our stringing solutions save precious time, and less pain for those who use them every day.

Precisely, what are the businesses that use or are likely to use your solutions?

We are developing a lot in boating, it is in essence our core business. But we want to go further: industry, logistics, transport, events. Wherever there are hooks. For example, we are currently developing a specific carabiner with an oyster farmer to hang oyster bags at sea. We are also in contact with a sailboat builder to go on first sale.

You have also innovated in the way production works ...

The hundred or so products in our catalog are manufactured in collaboration with Saprena: an adapted company that employs people with disabilities. It depends on the Adapei des Pays de la Loire association which is one of our partners. Even if they meet industrial specifications, our products are manufactured manually, because they require precision and rigorous thoroughness. A requirement that corresponds well to this public with disabilities, offering them reassurance and autonomy. It was important to us.

Why did you choose to set up in the region?

Yves Laurant, originally from Sarzeau, naturally wanted to create and develop his business in a territory favorable to his sector of activity and his ideas. He was supported by VIPE and the communities. There is also a whole nautical ecosystem in the Kerollaire business area in which we are located and with which we collaborate. And between Crouesty and Saint-Gildasde-Rhuys, we are at the heart of our activity.
