FV Cu Na Mara Detects Prawns with Echo.

The Irish vessel Cu Na Mara recently installed an Echo system for prawn detection.

This 24 m vessel targets deep water prawns on the Porcupine Bank. The vessel has the most current Notus technology onboard. The newest model receiver (TM900ET) with the long range hydrophone (G901) is providing an excellent acoustic link to the trawl mounted sensor (1200m away).

Captain Patrick Flannery comments “Yesterday we just concentrated on the data from the Echo and we had the same amount of prawn for half the fishing time as the day before.” In this setup, the integration with Sodena colours the ship’s track according to prawn catch. Captain Flannery further comments “Them numbers work.” Marine Fleet Electronics of Killybegs installed this system.

Notus expects Echo to be a “game changer” for prawns as it was for the shrimp industry. Orders have already been placed for new builds in Scotland.
