Exclusive: Malcolm McKeon Yacht Design 32.5m sloop to be built at Vitters

Malcolm McKeon Yacht Design has announced his latest signed project, a 32.5-metre high-performance sloop sailing yacht to be built at Vitters Shipyard in The Netherlands.

An experienced yacht owner commissioned the UK designer to create a yacht that combines racing performance and comfortable world cruising. The project is tightly under wraps, but the owner has allowed details and this early-stage rendering image (above) to be released to Boat International.

The hull will be built in carbon composite, and to meet the required brief for racing capabilities, much attention is being placed on the sailing performance. In this vein, the design has been extensively tank tested in order to best optimise the hull shape and appendage configuration.

The interior, by French designer Remi Tessier, will be designed to be lightweight as well to keep the racing performance at a premium.

Construction is scheduled to start on the new 32.5-metre sailing yacht in early 2015 with delivery planned for late autumn in 2016.

Malcolm McKeon and Vitters are also collaborating on a 33-metre sailing, which Vitters Shipyard signed a new order for in September 2014 and is due for delivery in 2016 with interiors from Design Unlimited.
