Happy Birthday Astondoa: Celebrating 100 Years On The Market!

Think Spain, and top-class yacht builders is not necessarily the first thing that comes to mind.

This is something that Astilleros Astondoa is looking to change, and celebrating their centennial milestone this year, one might wonder why to so many this shipyard is over-looked as a market contender. SYT formed part of 350 guests, family, friends and international press members to celebrate this joyous occasion with the Astondoa family in the company’s home town of Santa Pola.

Guests were welcomed by Chief Executive Officer, Jesus Astondoa, who delivered the company’s colourful family history in detail and how it come to be that the shipyard is based in the quaint fishing town of Santa Pola today. An impressive figure of 3,000 yachts have been delivered by the yacht builder to date, employing a 150 man-strong workforce that creates each vessel that leaves the facility.

The shipyard has come a long way in term of innovation and today utilises advanced construction techniques to stay ahead of the game. Currently under progress during the tour was the hull sculpting of Astondoa’s new 65 Fly model. Here, the largest marine-purpose 5-axis CNC machine in use today intricately carves the exact hull lines of their next fleet addition to ensure a more efficient build process and class leading accuracy.

During the gathering the crowd was overwhelmed by the gracious and inviting Spanish hospitality and were considered a part of the Astondoa family.

As part of the weekend’s activities guests were treated to the unveiling of Astondoa’s brand new 655 Coupe model. The latest addition in the shipyard’s new generation of yachts features a cutting design and sharp futuristic lines much like that of high performance sports car. Sea trials we successfully conducted over the following weeks where the yacht reached an impressive top speed of 33 knots. Astondoa used this opportunity to re-launch their website, which now matches the forward-thinking mind set of the company.

The Astondoa 655 Coupe, along with the newly launched 80 GLX, will be displayed at the 2016 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show and will demonstrate how the philosophy of the Astondoa family will continue to be seen in each of its customised models.
