Malcolm McKeon unveils new 51m sailing yacht concept

Malcolm McKeon Design has revealed their latest sailing yacht concept: Project MM51. Measuring 51 metres, the sloop will be constructed in aluminium and emphasises comfortable and safe performance cruising.

On board she accommodates up to 10 guests over five well appointed cabins, with all rooms benefitting from an abundance of natural light from the large windows in the hull. This welcoming lightness is continued in the main saloon, as the sleek glass canopy above creates an airy feel in the main saloon whilst controlling heat absorption with reflective interlayers in the large glass panels, and heat reflective pigments in the dark colour paint.

The glass extends over the cockpit providing a smooth flow from the exterior space to the interior. The saloon and cockpit are on the same level, divided only by glass sliding doors, and the cockpit can be further protected from the elements with retractable glass side panels.

There is space for a large tender under the flush teak foredeck, with the tender well doubling up as a refreshing plunge pool. Moving aft, the wide deck has a step down to bring you closer to the water while remaining pleasantly protected, and the central aft-facing seating is the perfect place for a sundowner.

Her lifting keel will offer a draft from 4.75 to 7.2 metres and above the water her sloop rig stands at 68.5 metres with the sail configuration featuring a square-top mainsail.

Project MM51 has been extensively developed and is reportedly ready to sign with a shipyard. The studio state that with an order placed before the end of 2016, the vessel could be delivered by winter 2018.
