Horizon completes second NYC Ferry vessel

Horizon Shipbuilding, Inc., Bayou La Batre, AL, has delivered its second ferry for NYC Ferry (which up until yesterday was called CityWide Ferry).

With successful sea trials and certification by the U.S. Coast Guard behind her, the second vessel — H201— will get a final clean up and the Hornblower crew will begin the nearly 1,900 journey from Horizon's shipyard to New York City in the next few days.

The first ferry, H200, arrived in New York Harbor on Sunday morning, April 2 after a 13-day journey.

C.V. Partridge, NYC Ferry Project Manager for Horizon, said, "The trials for H201 can only be described as a clean sweep. All systems functioned as designed and the boat operated in outstanding fashion throughout testing. Horizon is proud to provide Hornblower with an excellent boat."

"We don't have a lot of time to rest on our laurels," he continued. "H202 is right behind H201, but I want to take this opportunity to thank all of Horizon's master boat builders for their hard work."

Junior Volpe, Director of Special Projects for NYC Ferry Operated by Hornblower said, "Our team is excelling at meeting Mayor DeBlasio's ambitious goals to provide quality, reliable and affordable ferry service throughout New York City for millions of New Yorkers and visitors. There is a bright new day on the horizon for New York ferry travel and the ferry market as a whole."

John Lander, Head of Construction for NYC Ferry at Horizon, said, "On behalf of all of Horizon's outstanding employees, I would like to say that we are pleased to bring a splash of southern charm to the big apple. I hope New York enjoys our boat as much as we enjoyed building it."

H201 is a state-of-the-art vessel designed by Incat Crowther and features a refined lightweight aluminum hull affording excellent efficiency and superior seakeeping qualities. ADA accessible and complaint, NYC Ferry Operated by Hornblower provides spacious seating for commuters, and features Wi-Fi access and electronics charging stations throughout the vessel.
