The world’s biggest carbon sportsfisher takes shape

Hull 105 enters its final build stage at Yachting Developments in New Zealand…

With naval architecture by Michael Peters Yacht Design, structural engineering by Yachting Developments, and interior styling by the owner and the yard’s in-house team, the superstructure has been attached to the 38.7m hull. Built for a keen fisherman and experienced owner, Hull 105 will be the biggest all-carbon fibre sportsfisher in private hands on completion in Q3 of 2017.

“It’s always gratifying to see a project start coming together in its finished form and this transformational stage of the build of Hull 1015 is a tangible reminder of what a unique and exciting project this is,” says Ian Cook, Managing Director of Yachting Developments. “We are looking forward to her launch later this year.”

Hull 105 will be the first new-build to hit the water for Yachting Developments following the launch last year of Cygnus Montanus, a Frers-designed 33.5m ocean-going sloop with interior design by Adam Lay, which after a return visit to New Zealand is headed for the Pacific.

Operating out of a 10,000-sqm facility in Auckland, Yachting Developments are composite specialists able to build, refit and service yachts up to 60m. New Zealand shipyards have taken a beating post-2008 and, together with McMullen & Wing, it is the only superyacht builder still active in the Auckland region after Alloy Yachts wound down its operations in 2013. The company has adapted well to the realities of the market by diversifying into refit and commercial work. Drawing on its specialist skills, it is also working with a luxury golf course to build carbon fibre components and roofs.
