Last blade installed at Finnish windfarm

The very last blade on the last turbine at the Tahkoluoto offshore windfarm in Finland has been installed by Jan de Nul Group’s offshore jack-up vessel ‘Vole au vent’.

“The installation team did a fantastic safe and efficient job. We installed all ten 4.2 MW turbines within the contractual time frame” said Peter De Pooter, manager offshore renewables at Jan De Nul Group.

The first phase of the construction of the windfarm was previously completed in 2016, when wind power producer Suomen Hyötytuuli Oy chose Jan De Nul NV, part of Jan De Nul Group, as the main marine constructor for the new windfarm.

Construction of the windfarm started in April 2016 with seabed preparations for the foundation and cable installation.

Works resumed in April 2017 with the Vole au vent successfully completing the installation of the ten gravity based foundations early June.

The Tahkoluoto offshore windfarm has been constructed by five international suppliers: Siemens, Technip, ABB, Prysmian, and Jan De Nul NV.

It’s the world’s first offshore windfarm designed for icy conditions with ten 4.2 MW turbines and will be ready for commercial operation in September 2017.

Vole au vent will soon demobilise and start preparations for its next project in Blyth, UK.
