Small commercial marine research

British Marine has published key findings for the UK’s small commercial marine sector in response to an industry call for a clear performance measure of the industry.

Over the coming year, it said it will be drill down into this data further to determine an accurate and robust footprint of the industry to allow member companies to identify key business opportunities and concerns.

“As one of the three core sectors we represent, the commercial sector is a vital element for the success of the whole UK marine industry, promoting British excellence around the world,” said Howard Pridding, chief executive officer, British Marine.

“British Marine [is] delivering the much-needed robust data this sector is calling out for.”

According to the research, over half (53.7%) of the sector’s turnover was generated by companies within the supply chain, whilst nearly a third (32.9) was from commercial marine builders, with the remaining 13.4% secured by business services.

British Marine’s commercial association, Commercial Marine attended Seawork International this year to support over 76 members exhibiting at the event and help showcase the array of expertise its members can offer the marine sector.
