UK builder delivers to German flag rules

Canvey Island, UK-based Blyth Workcats made the official handover of its new 15m Survey Vessel, Egidora, to Kiel University at this year's Seawork International.

This 15m workcat gives exceptional manoeuvrability both at low and high speed and also in deep or shallow water. Powered by two IVECO C9 550hp engines, this new build can carry 12+2 passengers and can reach a maximum speed of 22 knots. A key milestone for Blyth Workcats though, is the fact that Egidora has been constructed to comply with BG Verkehr classification as she is built to operate under German Flag.

Blyth Workcats manager, Stuart Davidsen told Maritime Journal that this was the company’s first build to these stringent rules and that the contract for which Blyth beat several German yards, could signal the start of a new area of business.

The large rear deck features a moon pool fitted with a hydraulic retractable hydrodynamic gondola, designed to house a high grade multibeam echo sounder system. The vessel has a hydraulic deck winch which when combined with the hydraulic A-Frame, allows for the safe launch and recovery of geophysical equipment.

Stuart Davidsen is justifiably proud of this new addition to his company’s product range. Commenting on the new vessel he said; “We are confident that this design will be a great success with customers because they will be getting an outstanding boat for their money. We are able to offer boats that are built to meet the highest standards of sea keeping and construction quality yet at a price that often leaves customers with budget to spare. When that happens they gain the freedom to fit-out their purchase with the best bridge technology and cabin accommodation available so that their boats are the first choice for clients and passengers”.
