ITALY, Turin. In February 2011 we reported on a 100m sailing yacht concept called Phoenicia by Lobanov Naval Design. Principal designer Igor Lobanov has since revised the concept and released renders of Phoenicia II, a 133m version of the design.

“After Phoenicia was published, we were contacted by two clients who expressed interest in the design,” says the designer. “Following discussions with these clients, we began to develop the original design and increased the LOA by 33m and added another mast.”

Working together with Dykstra Naval Architects, a new sail arrangement has been achieved and key parameters verified to ensure that the design is sound. Along with an increase in the overall length, the team set out to raise deck heights, especially in the main guests areas.

“We have conducted a number of studies of the interior and explored what a reasonable minimum and maximum number of guest suites would look like,” says Lobanov. “We have also developed particular features based on the desires of each client, which we are not able to disclose.”

The design also offers the option for the inclusion of automated Venetian blinds, which could be programmed to create specific patterns. The blinds extend from the bow to the aft of the yacht, and from the upper deck to the main deck. However, the original ornamental solution suggested in the original design of Phoenicia for the walk-around galleries on the open decks is also a possible option.

Unfortunately Lobanov was not able to reveal any additional details but we hope to bring you more news on the project as it develops.
