MJP waterjets to power new generation of landing craft

Portland, OR, headquartered shipbuilder Vigor has selected Marine Jet Power (MJP) as the propulsion provider for the U.S. Army's Maneuver Support Vessel (Light), MSV(L), project.

The U.S. Army awarded the MSV(L) contract to Vigor in late 2017 (see earlier story) .

The Maneuver Support Vessel (Light) (MSV(L)) will replace the Army's 74 ft long Landing Craft Mechanized (LCM-8), which has been in service since 1967. The new generation of landing craft for the U.S. Army will feature triple drive MJP 750 DRB waterjets.

In total, MJP will deliver 45 shipsets of thrusters for the program over the next 10 years.

Selected for its superior shallow draft maneuvering capabilities, the 750 DRB waterjets are constructed from duplex stainless steel offering the latest advancements in MJP's proprietary mixed flow technology. Featuring an inboard hydraulic system and an integrated electronic control system, the selected propulsion package has been optimized to fit the needs of the U.S. Army. MJP will begin to deliver units to the shipbuilder in the Spring of 2019.
