GENVERTER ACTS AS A NIGHT OR MAIN GENERATOR

Webasto is launching the latest WhisperPower genverters at TheYachtMarket.com Southampton Boat Show.

The Piccolo 5 and Piccolo 8 are variable speed and feature a GRP casing designed to reduce noise emissions. The casing is easy to remove to allow servicing to be carried out.

“Shipyards and installers were looking for variable speed generators for yachts up to 20m to act as a night or main generator whilst featuring the same characteristics as the Piccolo 4 kVA,” explained David Stafford, commercial manager for Webasto Thermo & Comfort UK. “We’re helping to respond to market demand.”

Energy reservoir

The Piccolo models are for both 230V / 50Hz applications and DC versions, with the genverter becoming part of a complete WhisperPower hybrid energy system in which a service battery serves as an energy reservoir.

This battery is charged by the DC Piccolo and the connected high power WhisperPower inverters of 4, 7, 14 or more kVA deliver constant 230 V / 50 Hz.

The genverter principle consists of a diesel generator that delivers an exact 230V voltage and 50Hz frequency independent of the engine's speed and a PMG inverter converts the generated power into pure sine wave.

Required power

The speed range is from 2000 to 2800rpm which can be adjusted in accordance with the required power enabling optimal functionality of the diesel engine.

The genverter has a 5in or 7in touch panel.
