OCEANLED TO LIGHT UP REV OCEAN RESEARCH SHIP

OceanLED will supply specialised underwater lights for the REV Ocean a DNV GL polar class research vessel which when completed will be the largest privately-owned ship of its kind.

Due for launch in 2020, the ship will assemble international research communities in a joint effort to acquire more knowledge, create more awareness and develop new and sustainable maritime solutions.

“We are honoured that REV Ocean have chosen OceanLED to be their underwater lighting partner” said Charles Stuart, managing director of OceanLED.

“This is a challenging and iconic project that we’re excited to be part of and are proud that REV Ocean recognises our ability to achieve their unique lighting requirements.”

Project challenges

OceanLED has been working with the vessel owner and the boat builder, VARD, to create an amazing lighting solution in addition to benefiting the operational features for this inspiring project.

The project presented many challenges, such as achieving DNV GL’s stringent pressure test requirements with the requirement for underwater lights to exceed 28BAR / 286 mH2O (Metres of water) and actually exceeding the target by reaching 40BAR / 408 mH2O (Metres of Water), with the potential to go further.

The Rev Ocean project said it selected OceanLED as its partner based on its previous successful installations on other Polar and Ice Class vessels and its products ability to operate in the harshest of environments.
