Hakvoort launches 64m flagship explorer

The Dutch yard Hakvoort has launched its 63.72 metre flagship, Scout, a brand-new explorer yacht designed to look like a conversion from a commercial vessel.

Previously known as Project Brio, the yacht is set to be towed from the facility in Monnickendam to Amsterdam for completion – starting with installation of her mast, crow’s nest, radars, stabilisers and propellers. She is due to be delivered in spring 2019.

Built in steel and aluminium, Scout will be powered by twin Caterpillar 3512C engines for a top speed of 14.8 knots and cruising speed of 12.5 knots.

With a beam of 11.6 metres and a draft of 3.25 metres, Scout accommodates eight guests across four staterooms on the main deck and there is a dedicated owner’s deck above.Designed inside and out by H2 Yacht Design, with naval architecture by Diana Yacht Design, Scout was previously known under a different project name, with a different designer attached.

However a “change of ownership in cooperation with Fraser Yachts saw a complete change in direction for the steel and aluminium explorer yacht," according to the yard.Jonny Horsfield of H2 Yacht Design said: “Scout has been an exciting project for the H2 Yacht Design and Hakvoort teams."

“The owner’s brief called for a rugged explorer style yacht intended to look like a conversion from a commercial vessel. We gave her crisp, distinctive lines and integrated forward sloping windows. We placed the tenders on the bow, leaving them exposed to add to the utilitarian aesthetic.”

Key features include a helideck, forward observation lounge and an expansive sundeck which "allows unobstructed views fore and aft," Horsfield said.

"The whole design process was centered around a romantic idea of original ocean exploration and Scout's design - inside and out – really reflects that. She’s a fantastically unique vessel.”
