Zeelander unveils largest yacht to date: the Zeelander Z72

Dutch yard Zeelander Yachts has revealed its largest yacht to date, the flagship 22-metre Z72. Aiming to combine superyacht-level comfort with a smart use of space, the exterior design for the new flagship vessel was developed in combination with the Dutch designer Cor D. Rover.

The vessel's exterior design features Zeelander's characteristic New York commuter-style profile but on a larger scale. The yacht is full of curved surfaces, with a striking S-shaped sheerline and a distinctive rounded stern which unfolds to reveal a 100 square feet swim platform.

The in-house design team from Zeelander created the interiors of the Z72. Notably, the company emphasises that it actively involves owners of its yachts in discussions about models under development in order to tailor specific features and design elements to their requirements.

“Owners of Zeelander Yachts know what they like,” explained Floris Koopmans, Marketing Coordinator at Zeelander. “When they share their experiences, we know that no one has a better sense of how the boats are used. That discussion has led the way to the Z72.”

“We have made the boat very open, spacious and airy, so you always have the feeling that you are outside at sea. A very large convertible sunroof and a retractable aft sliding window gives the Z72 the appeal of a cabriolet, without limitations”, continued Koopmans.

Stand out features on board include a panoramic saloon, beach club cabana and spacious tender garage. Although the first Z72 unit does not have a jacuzzi, it could be installed on the aft deck instead of the sunbed on future yachts. After usage, the jacuzzi could then be closed to return to a sunbed.

In terms of accommodation, the Zeelander Z72 yacht has a three-stateroom layout, with the interior decor characterised as sophisticated and comfortable. The master stateroom is located forward and benefits from this curvy, updated take on the classic high-sided commuter design in its headroom and forward volume.

The master stateroom features a king berth finished in an updated Herreshoff style with white ceiling and overhead panels accented with dark varnished wood. Additional accommodation consists of a pair of guest doubles located amidships, where angled entry doors optimize the use of space while highlighting the mirror design. Each stateroom features a private head with a separate shower.Because the owner loves a good party, the Z72 has extra party lights and biggest JL sound system on all spaces on the boat. Helm, kitchen, aft deck, front deck all the rooms and even the swimming platform”, commented Floris Koopmans.

The crew’s quarters are adjacent to the hullside tender garage, where a RIB tender and PWC can be deployed and retrieved without interfering with activities taking place on the swim platform.

In terms of performance, Zeelander offers a selection of triple Volvo Penta IPS engine choices for the Z72. When powered by three 1,000-horsepower IPS 1350s, the Z72 is expected to reach a top speed of 40 knots, and benefits from the Volvo Penta integrated joystick system which boosts the yacht's manoeuvrability.

In addition, the Z72 can also be equipped with a Seakeeper gyro stabilization system for optimal comfort on board.
