Carnival orders bridge systems for new expedition cruise ships

Carnival Corp will install the latest integrated bridge systems (IBS) and dynamic positioning (DP) on its new fleet of purpose-built expedition cruise ships.

It has ordered IBS and DP systems from Kongsberg for two ultra-luxury polar-class passenger ships, which will be operated by the Seabourn brand.

These two ships will be built at the T.Mariotti shipyard in Genova, Italy, and are scheduled to enter service from Q2 2021.

Kongsberg will supply its K-Bridge IBS featuring multi-functional workstations with touch-sensitive control panel and joystick controls. There will be large information displays enabling accurate viewing and control of bridge auxiliary equipment.

As part of this package, Kongsberg will supply ECDIS, forward-looking, omnidirectional sonar, K-Pos DP, an integrated docking aid and ice radar.

Seabourn’s first purpose-built expedition ships will be constructed to PC6 Polar Class standards.

These vessels will hold two custom-built submarines, 24 Zodiac inflatable boats and an fleet of kayaks for immersive guest experiences.

The first, Seabourn Venture, is expected to enter service in June 2021. The second ship is scheduled for launch in May 2022.
