45m Damen Support Vessel Joy Rider Delivered and Debuting in Cannes
The first hull in Damen's newly developed range of 45 metre yacht support vessels Joy Rider has been delivered and is currently attending the Cannes Yachting Festival.
The yacht, which hit the water in August, travelled non-stop for eight days from the Netherlands to the Mediterranean, proving its mettle against bad weather and eight-metre waves.
Following Cannes, Joy Rider will appear at the Monaco Yacht Show later this month.
First revealed at the 2018 Monaco Yacht Show, the vessel design is "a smart package that can be both a stand-alone and a support solution," according to Damen managing director Rose Damen."Our approach has been proven in diving, exploring and marine conservation operations from Papua New Guinea to Antarctica," she added.
The 45 metre steel-hulled, semi-displacement yacht has a beam of 8.3 metres and 120 square metres of deck space.
Built with an aluminium superstructure, the exterior and interior design was handled by Damen’s in-house design team.The support vessel is “a blend of superyacht support and stand-alone functionality”, according to the yard, and offers accommodation for six guests across three double guest cabins, with a crew of seven.
Other key features include a touch-and-go helipad, zero-speed stabilisers, and deck crane for tenders and toys weighing up to 6.7 tonnes.
Power comes from a pair of Caterpillar C32 TTA engines for a top speed of 16.5 knots and range of 5,000 nautical miles at 12 knots.Speaking last year in Monaco, Damen added: “Joy Rider is a new design in the Damen Yacht Support range. Since introducing the range, we have delivered 15 yacht support vessels up to 71.5 metres – all supporting their owners in amazing adventures over the world."
