MHI-MME to take over production of MET turbochargers

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) is consolidating its manufacturing bases, meaning MHI’s Marine Machinery & Equipment Co (MHI-MME) will make the MET Turbocharger

MHI-MME will take over production of MET turbochargers from 1 January 2020. To date, MHPS has manufactured MET turbochargers on MHI-MME’s behalf.

By relocating the MET turbochargers’ production plant from Saiwaimachi to Akunouramachi — both in Nagasaki, Japan — the MET turbochargers’ production function will be absorbed by MHI-MME.

MHI-MME will become responsible for the related activities from product development to manufacturing and post-sales service.

It aims to achieve further growth by increasing the reliability of its MET Turbocharger and enhancing the quality of the services it provides through more focused marketing.

The move also marks the first time HoloLens technology is being used in the marine machinery industry.

Microsoft’s HoloLens technology is a mixed reality (MR) technology device often used in video game and architectural applications.

MHI-MME will use the HoloLens 2 system for its wide field of vision and high-resolution graphics to allow 3D virtual objects to be manipulated in virtual reality, allowing trainees to gain maintenance work experience without the need for physical machinery.
