AMERICAN MAGIC INSPIRES NEW KIT

For Summer 2020, Helly Hansen is introducing a collection of racing kit inspired by the company’s work with American Magic, one of the challengers in the next America’s Cup.

The clothing company has been official apparel sponsor of the challenger since 2018 with designers using Helly’s own seam-welding process to create an aerodynamic jacket, smock top and shorts.

“The collection was directly inspired by the engineering and technical construction of high-speed sail and powerboats,” said Øyvind Vedvik, Helly Hansen’s sailing category MD. “The design team has pushed the limits of our manufacturing and materials to come up with a collection that is highly technical and unique to the market.”

Waterstop construction

The HP Foil Pro jacket uses Helly Tech professional waterproof, windproof and breathable materials in a three-ply construction. The jacket has welded and double sealed seams and a new waterstop construction has been added to the cuffs.

The design provides easy mobility and clear visibility, thanks to a lower collar design.

The HP Foil Pro smock top has the same technical benefits as the jacket plus a neoprene adjustable waist and adjustable PU skin neck and cuff seals.

The HP Foil Pro shorts are also made using three-ply fabric construction and have large stash pockets, waterproof seat reinforcement and an articulated fit for function and comfort.
