Royal Huisman launches 81m Sea Eagle II

World’s largest aluminium sailing yacht has hit the water…

Royal Huisman has launched its largest-ever yacht, 81m Sea Eagle II, a contemporary three-masted schooner. Not only is the vessel the largest ever yacht built by the Dutch shipyard, once delivered she will also be the world’s largest aluminium sailing yacht.

Sea Eagle II has left the shipyard in Vollenhove and is reportedly progressing on schedule, with her carbon composite Rondal Panamax rig set to be installed upon launch at Royal Huisman Amsterdam, to ready her for sea trials and on-board crew training.

According to data provided by The Superyacht Agency, the average LOA of sailing yachts delivered in the last 10 – 15 years has remained around 40m, alongside a fairly level average gross tonnage (excluding an anomaly in 2017 due to the delivery of Sailing Yacht A). The 1150GT that Sea Eagle II comprises, however, and her 81m LOA place her firmly among the top 10 largest sailing yachts in the world, able to accommodate 14 crewmembers and 11 guests.

Mark Whiteley Design has included a half-raised bridge for inside steering, and the yacht’s flybridge offers full controls during sailing, seating for guests wishing to be close to the navigation, and areas for relaxation and sunbathing.

Dykstra Naval Architects have executed the exterior styling, as well as the naval architecture, and according to Thys Nikkels, Managing Director, “Using our experience and inventive minds to create an innovative contemporary schooner yacht for fast passage-making is one to tick off our bucket list.”

The Lloyd’s MCA (LY-3) class vessel is expected to be delivered to her owners in Spring (2020).
