HAVILA KYSTRUTEN TO TEST FUEL CELLS

Norway’s Havyard Group has contacted Gothenburg headquartered PowerCell Sweden AB to develop the design and technical specifications for a zero-emissions fuel cell system that can be installed on one of its new ships being completed for the Norwegian coastal trade.

The system will be based on several 200kW fuel cell system modules that will be connected in parallel to produce a total power of 3.2MW.

This will be the most powerful maritime fuel cell system ever built. Linde Engineering has been contracted to design and supply the cryogenic tanks needed for hydrogen storage while Norwegian Electric Systems will supply the battery system.

The new hydrogen fuel cells are expected to be retro-fitted to a Havila Kystruten vessel before the end of 2022.
