Amico Shipyard to Remain Open Throughout Coronavirus Outbreak

Italian shipyard Amico has “slowed down production activities” but will remain open throughout the coronavirus outbreak, its chairman has said.

A statement released by Alberto Amico said the Genoa area, where the shipyard is based, had received “a manageable number of cases” and that “most economic activities are open”.

However, the shipyard has seen a “progressive slowing down of production activities due to both the adoption of health measures and to the situation in general,” Amico said.

Production will be further reduced to a minimum for “two to three weeks” as the shipyard works “to safeguard our people, clients, suppliers and our national from the risk of an exponential growth in cases,” he said.

“We know that this situation will get better, but it will not be resolved in a short period. We need to change our habits and work in a different manner, being flexible and proactive, seeking new solutions.”

Amico added that the yard is confident production activities will “start recovering” from April.

“Our consistent in-house departments and mostly local partners network and supply chain allow us to look to the future months with confidence.”
