Inside Heesen’s In-Build Superyacht Project Altea

Heesen has revealed full details of its in-build 50 metre 5000 Aluminium superyacht Project Altea.

The second yacht built on the design and engineering platform of Nova Plus, Altea features contemporary exterior design characterised by floor-to-ceiling windows penned by Frank Laupman’s Omega Architects.

Speaking to BOAT International, Heesen director of sales and marketing Mark Cavendish said Project Altea’s exterior is “one of [Heesen’s] best” due to the sheer “amount of structural glass”.

“There are real floor-to ceiling-windows in the main saloon, the owner’s cabin and the upper saloon,” he said. “It’s like a floating greenhouse and will have fantastic views outside.”

Elsewhere, Altea features distinctive spray rails, a fast displacement aluminium hull form with a shallow draft of 2.15 metres, the latter of which Cavendish described as “heaven” for owners wishing to cruise the Bahamas.

Power will come from a pair of MTU 12V 2000 M72 main engines for a top speed of 19.5 knots.

This, Cavendish said, is one of the key selling points of Project Altea. “Altea is efficient and has a good turn of speed, making her attractive to Mediterranean and Caribbean cruising owners where the distances are relatively short.”

Altea also has a transatlantic range of 3,750 nautical miles at a cruising speed of 12 knots.

Inside, Altea has a sub 500GT interior accommodating a total of 12 guests in six cabins and 350 square metres of interior space.

The Cristiano Gatto-penned interior features stained Canaletto and American walnut veneers for both the flooring and walls, as well as textured leathers and custom carpets. Other materials include silk and velvet paired with leather trims.

“The feeling of the interior is more masculine than feminine," Cavendish said. "It’s like the interior of a classic Bentley or Aston and combines natural materials such as walnut and stone.”

The interior is understood to be close to completion with installation set to begin soon.

Construction continues on Project Altea which is due for delivery in May 2021.
