Codecasa starts new 58m speculation project C127

Having pulled through the Covid-19 lockdown period, Italian shipyard Codecasa has confirmed it is building a new 57.8-metre speculation superyacht.

Hull number C127 is set to be delivered during the spring of 2023 and will feature an exterior design by Cantieri Codecasa.

The "innovative and technical" new superyacht will be able to reach a maximum speed of around 21 knots at light displacement - making her one of the fastest yachts in her category. Inside, up to 12 guests will be able to reside in either the owner’s suite or five additional staterooms. With all decks accessed via an onboard lift, guests can make use of the beach area astern with a folding shell door that becomes a swimming platform, the gym and 3.5 x 3-metre swimming pool on the sun deck.

"In the development of the preliminary previsions of the hull resistance, we have been taking into account the favourable effects reachable with the use of stern supports, 'Transom Wedge' type. We then focused our attention on the bow shapes and we opted for a vertical bow lengthening the water lines of the hull. Afterwards, we considered the possibility of making a forward bulb with only a lateral development, i.e. wide-wise. To confirm the favourable effects of the above, a series of CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) simulations have been performed, in the most thorough version available today, i.e. with a RANSE approach (Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes Equations)," explains the head of the Codecasa technical team, Gianluca Imeri.

Explaining more about the 920 GT yacht's technicalities, Imeri continues: "After the encouraging results obtained, our shipyard commissioned the Potsdam model basin SVA (in Berlin) to carry out a comprehensive program of tests on a 1:9.5 scale model (the model length was about 6 metres). The results of the various resistance and self-propulsion tests provided even more positive resistance data in the whole speed range, especially with respect to values around the 20 knot target."

The steel fast-displacement hull will be equipped with twin Caterpillar 3516E 2525 kW engines with 3,386 hp in total to reach a range of over 6,000 miles at 12 knots.
