Southern Wind sells fifth SW105 yacht Nordic Cool

Southern Wind Shipyard is currently constructing the fifth unit in its growing SW105 miniseries of bluewater performance cruisers.

Named sailing yacht Nordic Cool, this new project is the passionate owner’s first sailing yacht and with lamination already underway, will be ready to depart Cape Town in early 2022.

Nordic Cool is being built to RINA charter class regulations as the vessel will become available for charter upon delivery. Nauta Design and Farr Yacht Design worked with the owner to create a customised vessel that blends performance with tasteful guest spaces. The yard is building Nordic Cool with a full carbon hull, deck and bulkheads to save weight along with materials such as synthetic teak and titanium. Out of sight are her twin rudders and telescopic keel (3.65 metres - 5.6 metres) that improves handling and access to shallower waters.

“I’m looking for a high-performance bluewater yacht for fast and comfortable sailing,” explained her owner during the project’s initial briefing. As a motor yacht owner, the client was after a comfortable platform that was as reliable and enjoyable as his current vessel. The raised saloon design of the deckhouse creates an airy interior and opens the saloon area to the outdoors with skylights and windows around the deck structure.

The ‘Nordic Cool’ interior as described by Southern Wind was inspired by the SW96 yacht Seatius, and the owner therefore got Nauta Design and Jeroen Machielsen on board to help achieve a similar style on Nordic Cool. The layout has been kept conventional with a forward master cabin and three guest cabins in the amidships section of the yacht. Crew accommodation is found aft of the main companionway and sleeps up to six crew in three cabins.
