Alma: First 57m Sanlorenzo 57 Steel superyacht launched

Sanlorenzo has launched Alma the first unit from its 56.5-metre 57 Steel series, from its facility in La Spezia, Italy. West Nautical finalised the sale of Alma and acted as project manager throughout her construction.

The launch of the Alma marks a major milestone for the Italian yacht builder, as she’s not only the first unit from a new metal series of superyachts, but one that redefines the traditional general arrangement. Rather than situating the wheelhouse forward of the upper deck, the 57 Steel’s is located on the bridge deck – typical for larger yachts.

Spanning five decks and boasting 1050 GT, the 57 Steel is the largest superyacht designed by Zuccon International Project. "The 57 Steel is an ambitious project behind which there has been an intense amount of typological research, a very important study which has always been at the basis of the research that Zuccon International Project has been conducting with passion since the beginning of its collaboration with Sanlorenzo,” Bernado Zuccon of Zuccon International Project previously explained.

“The aim was to create a craft of around 1050 GT with functional and lifestyle contents that are normally found on boats of larger sizes,” Zuccon continued. “From a design point of view, the most important challenge was to find the right balance between the volumes and proportions of the boat. There is no ostentation of the brand, and the external lines have a defined and extremely fluid, transparent and lucid progression in which the yard's language shines through. We can define 57 Steel: a skillful play of balance between content and container.”

Alma can accommodate as many as 12 guests and 11 crew, and the task to curate her interior spaces was entrusted to Vickers Studio. At the client’s request, the studio worked to create a warm and cosy environment.

“It has been a pleasure to work with Sanlorenzo and Vickers Studio on the first hull of the new 57 Steel model," Geoff Moore, Managing Director of West Nautical, commented. "Through difficult times globally during covid, everyone has worked closely together in order to achieve an extraordinary outcome. All parties involved deserve credit for their tireless efforts and involvement in this magnificent vessel, soon to be delivered to a visionary owner.”

"We were tasked with creating a warm, detailed and inviting interior for an experienced owner and his family aboard this 56-metre steel Sanlorenzo,” John Vickers of Vickers Studio, previously explained. “The design process was a huge creative pleasure and the shipyard team responded really well to our design direction, producing a wonderful interior. We were excellently supported by West Nautical's management and construction team, who were extremely professional. We have worked with Sanlorenzo before and know the care and attention to detail, but on this yacht, it was exceptional."

In terms of performance, the 57 Steel has been equipped with twin Caterpillar engines that are expected to deliver a top speed of 16.5 knots. Some of her key features include a swimming pool on the aft deck and a beach club with folding terraces.

The series has proven a great success, and Alma will be followed by three more units – all of which have been sold.

Alma will be delivered to her owner in the coming months.
