Molabo: A high-power, low-voltage electric outboard

The German manufacturer of electric motors for pleasure craft Molabo, which entered the inboard market, is working on an outboard version. A concept that takes up the basic choices of the company, reconciling power and low voltages.

Molabo inboard motors

After starting out in the automotive sector in 2015 with an initial prototype, Germany's Molabo entered the field of electric motors for boats in 2020 with its first demonstration boat. This one was equipped with a conventional shaftline inboard motor. The equipment manufacturer released its first 50 kW inboard motors, named Iscad V50, in June 2021. Since then, several projects have come to fruition and a first original equipment contract has been signed with a recognized production shipyard, the Italian shipyard Aschenez, for a Capoforte SQ240i. In total, more than 20 projects have been set up in 2022 with European and Chinese manufacturers.

An outboard version

To complete its offer, Molabo is working on an outboard version of its electric motor, as sales manager Erich Feldmeier told us at Boot Düsseldorf 2023: "It's been two years since we started testing an outboard. A prototype is on the water. Our goal is to offer pre-series in the summer of 2023. As with the inboard, we are staying on a rigorous process with 5 engines tested before launching the pre-series."
