Gresham Yacht Design announces 87m contract
The 87m is to be built by Yachtley Shipyard in Turkey
UK, Hampshire. Gresham Yacht Design has announced an 87m new build contract, to be built by Yachtley Shipyard in Izmut, Turkey.
While building an 87m seems quite a big step for motoryacht building in Turkey, Steve Gresham — owner and design director of the UK-based studio — remains assured that the yard is more than capable of delivering a yacht of this size. "This may be Yachtley’s largest project to date, but the yard has recently built an 80m motoryacht and has done a number of large refits,” he explains. “The decision to go with the Turkish yard was totally the owner’s decision but I have no doubt that they will be good. One of the best put together interiors I have seen was on a Turkish-built yacht two years ago in Monaco.”
The 87m has been designed with the guest accommodation foremost on the owner’s list of requirements. A full width salon is located amidships on the upper deck, and balconies port and starboard extend the beam of the yacht for added exterior deck space. A 'Viewing Lounge' on the aft bridge deck is cantilevered and overhangs the side of the yacht with full height windows giving an uninterrupted panorama of the sea.The yacht has a single flowing line from the bow to aft deck, a design feature which holds the visual balance of the yacht together. The yacht has many design features such as the combined Cone shaped Radar/TV Domes — which Gresham calls the 'Scantenna Pods' — to the balconies and the MES lifesaving system, which is unusual on a yacht this size and negates the need for external life rafts.
An enclosed mooring room forward allows the helideck to be on the bow and enclosed mooring rooms aft allow the main aft deck to be free of bollards, capstans and mooring lines to give large clear deck spaces for the guests. Gresham Yacht Design has collaborated with naval architects Alpha Marine and the yacht is to be built by Yachtley Shipyard.
