The latest design motoryacht to come from Scott Henderson

US, New York. Inspired by the classic look of a Down East yacht, a maritime archetype indigenous to the fishing and yachting industry of northeast America, the 13.2m Peconic 43 is the latest design to come from designer Scott Henderson.

Working together with CH Marine in Shelter Island, New York — best known for building 11.5m Alexa for American singer and songwriter Billy Joel — Henderson has created a contemporary looking boat that pays homage to the traditions of the region from which it was inspired. One of the main features of the design are two inlaid decking stripes that extend the length of the foredeck. These lines peel upward towards the aft of the boat to form the frame of the hardtop canopy. “This simple innovation lends a radical new look to the yacht,” says Henderson. “This ‘twist’ in viewpoint makes the Peconic 43’s outward persona feel fresh, awe‐inspiring and instantly memorable.”

While traditional Down East motoryachts often incorporate two or three small portholes on either side of the raised foredeck, Henderson opted for a continuous single thin wraparound glass. This narrow window begins forward of mirrored engine vents, below the canopy, and extend to the bow. This not only allows more natural light to flood the interior but it creates the illusion of a floating foredeck. “This floating forward deck and recessed wraparound glass window also communicates speed,” says the designer. “The detail naturally helps to draw air into the engine vents, much like air intakes on a jet aircraft.”

A skylight has also been included down the middle of the foredeck and includes two hatches for easy access to the deck from the interior cabin, which offers two metres of headroom. The skylight connects seamlessly to the windscreen and extends to the roof of the canopy. Aft of the boat is a U-shape cushioned seating area for guests to enjoy, while access to the cabin below is provided through a door next to the cockpit. The stern of the vessel includes a generous swim deck that carries the racing stripe featured on the aft seating area and on the foredeck.

Twin Yanmar Marine 8LV 370 MHP engines will power the 13.2m and will achieve a top speed of 42 knots and a range of 347nm at a cruising speed of 34.8 knots.
