BOOT 2015: A GLANCE AT THE NEW SUNBEAM 40.1

Comfort, safety and a variety of options characterize the new 40-foot yacht from Austria

Entering the cockpit of the new Sunbeam 40.1 goes along with the feeling of safe and comfortable yet sporty cruising. It is the first time that the Austrian company Sunbeam Yachts, in cooperation with the Slovenian team from J&J Design, decided on an aft cockpit instead of a center cockpit on one of their larger yachts. The almost completely closed stern from which a spacious bathing platform can be folded down makes sure that the cockpit stays an enclosed and secure space nonetheless. Enough room behind the twin wheels allows a huge storage locker at the stern whose cover serves as a spacious sundeck.

Useful handles on the foldable cockpit table provide possibilities for holding on in rough conditions, and the winches of the main sheets are reachable for the helmsman. The deck and bathing platform are covered with teak in the version that is shown in Düsseldorf, which grants a certain elegance to the exteriors of the Sunbeam 40.1.

The interiors are separated from the cockpit by a transparent sliding hatch. Inside, one is welcomed by a classic arrangement with a useful division of space. The L-shaped galley at port side provides ample storage room, the bathroom on starboard side even has a separate shower room and indirect light that creates a pleasant atmosphere.

Three versions of the interior configuration are available: Standard, Comfort and Luxury. All models offer a proper chart table in the salon that is accessible from benches on either side of the table. The owner’s cabin is equipped with an island bed with handy access from both sides or with a V-shaped double berth and an additional bathroom.

Options are also available with regard to several features of the Sunbeam 40.1. The fixed keel can be chosen with 1.70 or 2.00 meter draft, the engine with 39 or 54 HP. Further possibilities are a windshield protecting the cockpit and a self tacking trail. However you decide, the Sunbeam 40.1 seems to promise a great time on the water.
