BOOT 2015: A GLANCE AT THE NEW IMPRESSION 50

We take a closer look at the latest sailing yacht from Elan's brand, Impression Yachts

Still a sailing yacht or already a swimming luxury home? The answer is easy: The new Impression 50 is both. She is the biggest of Elan’s renamed series of elegant cruising yachts between 35 and 50 feet marketed under the recently created brand Impression Yachts. As per usual, the team of the Slovenian boatyard developed the design together with Rob Humphrey. Like the whole range, the Impression 50 has an airy and light interior, but she is the only one with a unique and innovative below deck division. Coming down the companionway, one directly enters the spacious sitting area which feels at first glance unusual for a sailing yacht of this size. But indeed, the social area is vast and promises a convivial and pleasant time below deck. Due to the option of an adaptable salon table this U-shaped seating area can even be transformed into a double berth.

The galley is positioned further towards the bow and still offers plenty of stowage options and amenities such as a wine chiller or a microwave. Vis-à-vis either the navigation station or a head and shower cabin can be found, depending on the owner’s preference.

The Impression 50 is available in a two, three, four or even five cabin version, the latter including a skipper cabin at the bow. The number and position of heads and showers thus varies, but the general division (social seating area at full beam and kitchen towards the front) stays the same in all options. The most fascinating thing is the huge mirror between the two stern cabins. Standard in every version, it lets the area below deck appear even more spacious.

Deck and cockpit arrangements complete the overall comfort of the cruising yacht. The U-shaped seating area around the foldable cockpit table waits for sundowners with numerous guests. A cockpit fridge, outside bar and sunbathing areas on deck and the electric bathing platform will fulfill the dreams of sun- and comfort-seeking sailors. The high-positioned stern seats at either side of the cockpit behind the helm position were probably the most sought after places during the boat show – and probably later on during sailing.

Let’s look at the sailing gear: the winches (reachable from the twin rudders) as well as the optional self-tacking jib system facilitate you-and-me sailing when the guests are gone.

Conclusion: The Impression 50 is really impressive – come, see and sail away yourself.
