A boat inspired by a plane and a submarine

We are seeing more and more new boat designs inspired by vehicles these days. We’ve seen speedboats designed by an automobile constructor, a boat with the engine of a fighter plane and even a submarine that looks like a yacht. With the 36-metre Su-36, Mahjoub El Mahmoudi presents a boat inspired by both a submarine and an aircraft! Indeed, when we look at the pointy hull, it’s easy to figure what aspects of a submarine were used in its conception. But the most interesting part remains the cockpit. Its shape evokes the fuselage of a plane and helps reducing the aerodynamic trail of the boat. Somehow, these two opposite attributes create a real coherence in the general aspect of the Su-36.

However, the cockpit’s shape isn’t the only attraction. The fully glazed roof is composed of four big photovoltaic panels that provide electricity to the boat while the other glazed surface gives a stunning 360° view. The boat is able to accommodate 10 guests in 5 cabins and also includes a spacious salon and dining area and an upper deck with Jacuzzi. The Su-36 will be equipped with two MTU 16V 4000M engines that should allow it to reach a maximum speed of 32 knots.
