NINE DAYS, 5000 SAILORS, 400 RACES: KIELER WOCHE 2015 STARTS THIS SATURDAY

The world’s biggest sailing event, Kiel Sailing Week, will run from June 20th to 28th

The Kieler Woche (Kiel Sailing Week) is known to be the world’s biggest sailing sport event. Only three days to go until it begins this Saturday, June 20th. Nine days full of world class sailing races and an entertaining summer festival ashore await the expected three million visitors from all over the world.

Four hundred regattas on eleven race courses with 5000 participating sailors and nearly 2000 boats from 50 countries are scheduled. Given the internationality and top-level events, the 133rd Kiel Sailing Week could be good practice for the city’s ambition to host the Olympic sailing competitions in 2024. Races in Olympic, Paralympic, European, international and ORC classes will be taking place this year, among those eye-catching boats such as 49er, Musto Performance Skiffs or Formula 18 catamarans.

Lovers of traditional sailing and tall ships will be in heaven during the windjammer parade on Saturday, June 27th, and while strolling along the quayside of Kiel, from where the old beauties depart for day trips along the race courses.

A visit definitely seems worth a detour – for those who won’t be able to come along, the Livecenter, Facebook, the YouTube channel and further (social) media will provide real-time information about the event. And now, dive into the scenery with the official trailer!
