FERRARI RACER ANTARES II UP FOR AUCTION

A rare boat up for sale at Rétromobile in Paris

As of tomorrow, February 7th, an extremely rare Ferrari hydroplane will be put up for auction at Rétromobile in Paris, France. The Antares II is a one-person racer that was ordered by the Greek-Italian pilot Augusto Schapira for the 1954 racing season. It is one of three Ferrari boats in existence, and the only model to be equipped with a 4-cylinder engine.

Rather than opt for a powerful V12 engine, they chose a 4-cylinder 2.8 liter Ferrari engine with 223 horsepower, however the original motor was initially sold separately from the boat. It was replaced with a comparable motor in the 1990s.

The boat’s two-tiered deck and taut lines draw their inspiration from the American racers of the 1950s. It also had a relatively illustrious racing career in Italy before being sold to a collector in the 1970s.It’s estimated that it will sell for between 400,000 and 600,000 euros. We will be interested to see the result!
