Sunreef 40 hydrofoil superyacht tender design shown at Cannes boat show

Details of the new Sunreef 40 H superyacht tender

During its press conference at the Cannes boat show, Polish catamaran builder Sunreef Yachts discussed in detail its plans for a new breed of high-tech hydro-foil superyacht tenders, the Sunreef 40 H.

‘Sunreef is always pushing boundaries and always listening to clients, that’s how the 40 hydrofoil was born,’ says Robert Blazejak, chief concept designer of Sunreef Yachts.

The 12-metre boat has an innovative catamaran hydrofoil hull design. The hydrofoils are retractable, allowing the boat to be used in two different modes – flying on foils when conditions allow for it, or retracted and running on a typical catamaran hull when the conditions are less than favourable. The hydrofoils are used to reduce drag, thus greatly improving the vessels speed. When running on its hydrofoils, the Sunreef 40 H is predicted to reach a blistering maximum speed of 70 knots.

This is a prime example of America’s Cup trickle down technology – Blazejak noted how the fast-sailing America’s Cup AC72 hydrofoil multihull yachts inspired Sunreef’s design for the new Sunreef 40 H, and he says that hydrofoils are the future of yacht design.

The new Sunreef 40 H superyacht tender will launch in 2015 and will be available to be seen – and put to the test – at next year’s Cannes boat show.
