Van Geest and Rob Doyle design a 50m fast sailing superyacht

Van Geest Design and Rob Doyle Design have collaborated on a 50m fast sloop design

The sailing yacht was penned at the request of an experienced client who was seeking a fast racing yacht also suitable for comfortable cruising and sporting an unusual look. The resulting exterior design by Van Geest features sleek lines, with portholes disguised by their position in the hull stripe. New glass technologies such as controllable shading and heat reduction may be used in the glass panels in the superstructure.

The naval architecture by Rob Doyle includes a hull with a relatively wide (10.5m) beam carried well aft, allowing both a fine angle of entry and a good internal volume. A full-length hull chine carries the beam far outboard for stability, with a hydrostatic spray rail to keep the wetted surface to a minimum. The design includes a lifting keel.

Inside the plan includes owner’s cabin with a panoramic view and direct access to a beach club, three guest cabins, an open plan saloon, a TV room, an office and library, a sheltered aft cockpit and excellent visibility from all interior spaces. The design includes three crew cabins and a captain’s cabin. A 4.2m crew tender would be stored in a garage, and a 6m guest tender in a foredeck well.
