Wartsila Hybrid Scrubbers

One of the latest operators to invest in scrubber technology to meet new emission restrictions is Holland’s Royal Wagenborg, which has ordered Wärtsilä scrubber systems to clean the exhaust emissions of two of its ships, Balticborg and Bothniaborg.

The twin ships are employed on a long-term freight contract with Smurfit Kappa to carry weekly shipments of paper products between the ports of Haraholmen, Bremen, Sheerness and Terneuzen, all falling within the Baltic and North Seas’ Sulphur Emission Control Areas.

Both will be fitted with Wärtsilä Hybrid Scrubbers, which enable the use of either closed or open loop technology to remove SOx from the exhaust. The hybrid approach enables operation in closed loop mode when required, for instance while in port, while the open loop system can be used at sea. JS
