RUM RUNNER 11.5: THE MODULAR STAND UP PADDLE

A stand up paddle that can be taken apart and stowed in seconds

Stand up paddle boarding (SUP) is definitely a huge trend among water enthusiasts, but lugging and storing a board over twice your size is no easy feat. Point 65 has come up with a solution for urban paddlers: the Rum Runner 11.5.

The 350 cm (11.5′) Rum Runner is a modular stand up paddle that is easily taken apart when not in use. It consists of three pieces that snap together in seconds, yet can fit in your trunk and be stored under your bed. Each piece weighs as little as 7 kg (15 lbs). Made from tough 1-layer polyethylene, the board is capable of carrying up to 120 kg (265 lbs). A longer mid-section can be used to make the board longer and capable of carrying up to 135 kg (300 lbs).

The board was developed by Swedish designer (and SUP devotee) Magnus De Brito. Rather than the traditional flat hull that makes most SUPs excellent for surfing, the Rum Runner has a displacement hull that makes it excellent for touring, which is good news for paddlers that don’t live near an ocean!
