Handlebar Steering System Prevents Boat Accidents

A radically new steering and control system for High Speed boats increases safety and precision in High-speed boat manoeuvring.

Allowing full control of speed, steering and postural stability, even under exposure to slamming and impacts, while still holding on, prevents mistakes, accidents and injuries, even in the most challenging operations.

The new Ullman steering bar system is fully intuitive, as it utilising natural reflexes acquired already when learning to ride a bicycle. Operators will always feel the rudder angle by holding on to the steering bar. Throttling is done with twist grip, just like on a motorcycle.

It takes many years to master operating high-speed boats in rough seas.

When first presented, this provokingly simple approach naturally met significant resistance among the most seasoned operators, but once having tried it, even those adapt within hours. - For younger operators it is a question of minutes.

“Like with suspension seats, you need to try it yourself, preferably in harsh conditions, to fully appreciate what it does and how it interfaces with your body and mind” says Johan Ullman, the M.D. the scientist behind it.

“Many severe accidents could have been avoided if the boats had been built with intuitive, more precise control systems, reducing response times to milliseconds.”

Dr. Ullman a doctor in Swedish Nay reserve, started developing the concept in the early 90’ies, along with the Ullman Suspension Seats, today used as standard in navies and coast guards in more than 70 countries all around the world.

The new Ullman Steering system is a fully electronic, drive-by-wire control- and steering system. It that has been developed in tight cooperation with Volvo Penta and integrates with same interfaces as the Penta IPS drives.

It is available for single and twin drivelines and comes in different versions for controlling stern drives, water jets and outboards.
