Lindley installs river landings for the Kubango River, in Angola

The contract included the design, manufacture and assembly of several floating pontoons specially design to allow safe boarding of people onto to the small ferries that operates this river. This project involved a detailed study of Kubango''s characteristics – a river with very strong currents and subject to flooding during the rainy season – these called for cleaver engineered solutions able to provide a safe landing platform and survive the floods.

The landings, installed over a number of municipalities located on both banks of Kubango river, were equipped with Lindley''s Sagres HD range of floating pontoons. These comprise a reinforced steel structure hot-dip galvanized, with a hardwood timber deck and EPS filled polyethylene floats. The pontoons were equipped with enhanced flotation to cope with the design live load of 150kg/m2 and current deflectors to avoid debris accumulation during floods.

Completed the first phase of the project, the second phase will be launched in the beginning of this year with the installation of more landings, which are already being fabricated, thus providing other municipalities with similar facilities to serve the local population with better communication routes. The design and dimensioning of concrete structures was developed by Armando Rito Engineering, a Portuguese company with offices in Luanda.
