TV on board:

How to supply a large number of cabins with a wide choice of TV channels

Supplying numerous cabins on a big vessel with a wide choice of TV channels out one TVRO antenna can be a challenge.

EPAK recommends the use of a so called headend station as best practice.

This architecture smartly combines a huge number of independently selectable channels for each user with the advantage of using simple tree distribution networks with no special requirements regarding cables, splitters and outlets (standard cable TV equipment).

State of the art headends offer sophisticated features like transmodulation from digital satellite to digital cable signals including re-/cross-multiplex options to create own TV channel packages out of several satellite transponders.

All functions can be accessed easily through a user friendly web interface, even via secure remote connections through the internet. This provides highest possible flexibility including administration support for clients as well as most efficient usage of the cable TV frequency resources at the vessel.

Our example shows how one single DS6 or DS9 Quattro antenna, combined with a 16-channel headend station, is capable of distributing more than 100 HD channels to an unlimited number of cabins.
