Main Types of Marine Main Engine Propulsion Control Levers

【Classified by Transmission and Signal Type】

1. Mechanical Linkage Type
1)Direct mechanical connection to the fuel injection pump rack, providing direct feel but without safety interlocks; largely obsolete.

2. Pneumatic Type
1)Transmits pneumatic signals over distance. Intrinsically safe (explosion-proof), but difficult to integrate with electronic logic; being phased out.

3. Electric/Electronic Type (Mainstream)
Uses electrical signals for control. Subdivided into three kinds:
1)Potentiometer Type: Low cost, but contact wear can cause signal jitter.
2)Non-contact Hall Effect Type: Contactless, long service life, vibration-resistant. Often configured with dual redundancy; standard on high-end vessels.
3)Digital Bus Type: With built-in processor, outputs signals via CAN/Profibus, etc., with self-diagnostics.

4. Portable Wireless Type
1)A wireless terminal commonly used for maneuvering while walking during berthing/unberthing operations, equipped with anti-interference and emergency stop interlock functions.
