Echo Detects Nephrops

Detect where you are catching prawns and lagoustines on a tow.

Echo has been used by shrimp trawlers to detect where shrimp are being caught. The technology has certainly revolutionized the way shrimpers fish.

Now BIM (a research group in Ireland) has concluded "A review of underwater camera footage after this haul showed a relatively high number of Nephrops passing through the grid early on in the tow suggesting that the echo system was working well." Echo detecting Nephrops will be game changer for this fishery too.

In the photo, you can see a trawl tow of the Nephrops. You can clearly see the majority of catch was taken in the first 45 mins of this 3 hour tow.
